Puccini Hotel Milano – Tapestry Collection by Hilton
In the heart of Milan, along Corso Buenos Aires and just steps from Porta Venezia, the Puccini Hotel Milan is being brought back to life as part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton, following the comprehensive redevelopment of a 1930s building that had long remained unused.
The project transforms the existing property into a contemporary hotel, enhancing its location and strengthening its relationship with Milan’s urban and cultural context. The redevelopment covers approximately 2,700 sqm across four levels and includes 59 rooms, communal areas, and a rooftop restaurant with a terrace.
The complexity of the project called for a multidisciplinary approach, drawing on the diverse expertise of the Progetto CMR International Group.
Progetto CMR was responsible for the architectural design, Progetto Design & Build for construction site management, InFire for fire safety engineering, and Stain Engineering for building services engineering. The interior design was developed in collaboration with the studio of architect Chiara Caberlon.
The integration of the Group’s expertise enabled the different stages of the project to be coordinated in a cohesive manner, from design through to construction, addressing the complex technical, structural, building services and logistical requirements involved in transforming a historic building in the heart of Milan.
The architectural design, developed by Progetto CMR, reorganises the existing spaces and adapts them to the requirements of contemporary hospitality, through a reinterpretation of the building and a comprehensive upgrade of its building services systems.
The nearby Teatro Puccini, referenced in the hotel’s name, becomes the narrative foundation of the project, creating a dialogue between the hotel’s identity and the city’s cultural context.
The interiors comprise 59 rooms and a range of communal spaces, including the rooftop restaurant with terrace, conceived as a new vantage point and place of interaction with the urban landscape.
The transformation of the building required targeted structural interventions, including the extension of the staircase core up to the fifth floor, the reconstruction of some floor slabs, local modifications to the load-bearing masonry to create connecting rooms, the complete replacement of the roof, and the installation of new lift systems.
Particular attention was also paid to energy efficiency, through a hybrid building services system combining rooftop photovoltaic panels, conventional mechanical systems, and a gas-fired system to meet peak demand.
The building’s significant water requirements also called for the installation of high-capacity storage tanks and specific structural reinforcement works, within a 1930s load-bearing masonry building.
The Puccini Hotel Milan – Tapestry Collection by Hilton interprets the redevelopment of an existing building as an opportunity for urban regeneration, giving new purpose and value to a property in the heart of Milan.
The project brings together architecture, construction management, fire safety engineering, building services engineering and interior design, integrating the diverse expertise of the companies within the Progetto CMR International Group to create a new hospitality destination in dialogue with the urban and cultural character of Porta Venezia.
