The Bivouac stands on the Ruitor glacier in Valle d’Aosta and was created to honor the memory of Edoardo Camardella, a young ski instructor who died prematurely along with a friend in 2019 due to an avalanche. The small structure is composed of two intersecting volumes, symbolizing the intertwining of two lives, the two valleys the glacier faces and the two villages overlooked by the Bivouac. The architecture is designed to stand lightly and respectfully to the surrounding nature: sustainable and completely self-sufficient, it is powered by solar energy; only reclaimed natural materials were used for the interior spaces.
