On September 24th, the official opening ceremony of the renovated Stadio dei Pini in Viareggio took place, a multifunctional sports facility completely upgraded with innovation, sustainability, and harmony with the natural surroundings.
The event featured prominent Italian sports legends, including Marcello Lippi, Gigi Buffon, Alessandro Del Piero, Ciro Ferrara, Luciano Spalletti, Roberto Pruzzo, Eraldo Pecci, Luciano Chiarugi, and FIDAL President Stefano Mei. The evening was hosted by Sky sports journalist Alessandro Bonan, with volleyball player Veronica Angeloni as the event’s patron.

Stadio dei Pini was the first stadium in Italy to feature a tartan track back in 1969. Among its historic moments is the world record in shot put set by Alessandro Andrei in 1987.
Today, after complete refurbishment, the stadium has regained national and international prominence by hosting the final of the prestigious Viareggio Cup on March 31, 2025.
The new Stadio dei Pini was designed to harmonize with the surrounding pine forest through thoughtful architectural choices, sustainable materials, and a color palette inspired by nature.
