A decisive step forward in modernizing Calabria’s sports infrastructure: Sportium, the company of the Progetto CMR International Group specialized in designing next-generation sports venues, has presented the Technical and Economic Feasibility Project (PFTE) for the redevelopment of Catanzaro’s Ceravolo Stadium.
The project, unveiled in the presence of Mayor Nicola Fiorita, US Catanzaro President Floriano Noto, and Giovanni Giacobone, Architect and Managing Partner of Sportium, is structured in two main phases and aims to transform the historic stadium into a state-of-the-art facility with an increased capacity of 15,800 seats, fully compliant with CONI, UEFA, and FIGC standards. The initiative is part of a broader urban enhancement plan for the surrounding district.
Sportium has delivered the PFTE, defining the guiding principles of the redevelopment. The goal is to return to Catanzaro a modern, safe, and sustainable sports hub, a true “heritage of memory and collective identity,” as emphasized by Mayor Fiorita.
Giovanni Giacobone, Architect and Managing Partner of Sportium, highlighted the design philosophy: “For the Ceravolo, one of Italy’s oldest stadiums, it was essential to enhance the spirit of the place. We worked to make the stadium experience more engaging by bringing the Curva Massimo Capraro closer to the pitch, transforming it into a modern English-style stand.”
The Ceravolo Stadium redevelopment works have been conceived by Sportium to be cohesive and unified, allowing for future upgrades leading up to the complete reconstruction of the facility.
Massimo Roj, Architect and President of Sportium, concluded: “We envisioned a comprehensive renewal of the Ceravolo. Our goal as designers—working synergistically through the specialized expertise of the Progetto CMR International Group—is to help shape a vision that will bring value to the neighborhood and to the entire city, guided by a passion for sport as a positive driver of social cohesion.”
