New Cagliari Stadium

The design of the new stadium for Cagliari Calcio, presented in collaboration with Sportium, aims to create a true smart arena, perfectly integrated into its surrounding environment.

Morphologically consistent with the surrounding landscape and the city of Cagliari, the stadium constantly echoes the area’s distinctive colors and materials. It is not an abstract or alien structure, but a substantial component of the landscape, harmoniously reflecting its essential lines and serving as a project that effectively reconnects the various surrounding contexts.

The stadium rests on a paved plaza with a strong mineral character, evoking the substance and colors of the Sardinian coast and cliffs. The plaza rises from the sea inland, following the natural contours of the terrain, and transforms into a garden that defines the elevated rear section. This area covers the underlying complementary spaces with typical Mediterranean vegetation and includes equipped zones for everyday play and sports activities.

A pathway designed along the outer edge of the arena will offer changing art exhibitions, accessible to all, leading to the top of the facility, from which visitors can enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. The large complementary and multifunctional spaces inside the stadium will accommodate a variety of services—ranging from hospitality to entertainment, retail, and diverse dining options—creating a new gathering place for the Cagliari community that can be enjoyed year-round, seven days a week.
